Liebster Award for justalittlebitcute

cool liebster award badge

I am so chuffed to have been nominated for a Liebster Award recently. Chuffed that someone is actually reading my blog and chuffed that I was nominated for an award! Thanks Lisa from Lifeblooming for the nomination.

What is the Liebster Award?

The Liebster Award is an award for new blogs. Liebster is a German word that means: BELOVED, CUTE, LOVELY, DEAREST, and WELCOME.
This award acknowledges and promotes blogs by "paying it forward" by other bloggers. It could also be classed as a blogging version of a chain letter. The method of support replicates that of a chain letter where a blogger who has been nominated for an award must fulfil a few tasks then nominate a handful of other bloggers who do the same. Like a chain letter though if you don’t want to participate it’s as simple as well, not participating. It's up to you!

I agree ( and have copied her words exactly because I couldn't say it any better!) with Lisa from Lifeblooming who nominated me, where the value of the Liebster is this:
  1. It’s a great way to spread the word about wonderful undiscovered blogs.  It’s a  practical and simple way of connecting with others.
  2. As a very new blogger it gives me a boost when I’m still muddling my way through. I’m trying to find my way and my voice and this was a nice bit of validation when I’m walking that lonely walk of writing to what feels like, no audience!
  3. I enjoyed going through the list of nominated bloggers and finding other people who are working through similar challenges to me. I’ve gone on to follow a whole pile of new blogs.
  4. I also dig the idea that there’s a collective blog hug making it’s way in perpetuity round the world – cheesy but true!
Rules for the Award:

  • Acknowledge the blogger who nominated you and display your award.
  • Answer eleven questions that the blogger gives you.
  • Give eleven random facts about yourself.
  • Nominate eleven blogs (200 followers or less) that you think deserve the award.
  • Let the bloggers know you nominated them.
  • Give them eleven questions to answer

My eleven questions from Lisa at Lifeblooming:
Why did you start a blog? I had some time on my hands after having a baby (not so much spare time any more as that baby is now 2.5!) and I needed something else other than nappies, giggles and feeding time.

Knowing what you do now, what’s something you’d do differently if you were starting a blog today?
Have a clear plan about the what and why.  I started out with good intentions but needed more of a structure to make the blog really work.  While this does change from time to time, I feel that a clear plan is important at the beginning!

What’s one talent or skill you’d love to have and why?
How to make more quality time for everything including more 'me' time and not feel guilty about it

What 3 pieces of furniture would you have in your dream home? (describe the style or better yet put some pics up)

What’s your worst fashion moment? (feel free to provide photographic evidence)
There's been a few of those and photographic evidence has been erased however one of the worst was shiny metallic silver pants.

What’s your favourite post you’ve written? (link pls)

The Fun Lunch Series was my first attempt at networking with sponsors and my first really big Giveaway.  I felt like I was being taken seriously as a blogger.  Here is the first post of the series - Part 1: Hamming up Sandwiches

What’s something embarrassing that’s happened to you that you’ll laugh about one day but we can laugh about today?
There's been a few....gosh where do I start?

Coffee, tea or hot chocolate?
Does Chai count? I drank coffee for a while but it gives me heart palpitations, sometimes the buzz is good not the anxiety attack(a little caffeine sensitive perhaps?)

How would you describe where you live to a tourist?
I live in Christchurch and it's a bit broken but coming back to life for the better in some aspects.  The heart of the city is in it's people and we've all been pretty resilient which has resulted in a rebuild that has possibly never been seen before.

The best icecream in the world – what flavour is it?

Goody Goody Gumdrop (my fave as a kid and still is after all these years)

What’s your favourite way of unwinding (or the most practical one at least if life gets in the way of doing your favourite)?
Reading a book uninterrupted with a HOT cuppa (and some home baking) or having time to work on my new craft adventure Miniature Fairy Gardens.

    11 Random Facts About Me:

  1. I joined the RNZAF when I was 18. I lasted 8 weeks.
  2. I still don't really know "what I want to do". I have an Bachelor of Education degree and worked briefly as a relieving teacher  after I graduated. While I was searching for a full time teaching position and although I didn't decide it wasn't what I wanted to do at the time , not getting a teaching job probably worked out for the best .
  3. I married my partner after waiting 10 years for a proposal (he got there in the end).
  4. Living on the Gold Coast for a year was my 'OE' experience
  5. I live in Christchurch and was exactly 12 weeks pregnant the day of the February 2011 earthquake.
  6. I have a photographic memory for faces not so much names
  7. I love wrapping gifts as much as unwrapping them!
  8. Black jelly beans are my favourite
  9. I don't like Math much.
  10. I can't wait for the new season of House Rules to start.  It's like The Block but even better.
  11. I grew up in the Bay of Islands, one of the most beautiful parts of New Zealand

Bloggers I nominate:

Hazel from hazellovesdesign
Miriam from createhopeinspire
Treena-Marie from Creative Mama
Katrina from Offsquare
Melissa from The Best Nest
Louana from nzgreenbuttons
Leanne from Paper Moon
Becky from Liked. by Becky
Leonie from Kiwi at Heart

And the questions for my nominees:
  1. What inspired you to blog?
  2. Do you have a blogging idol?  Who is it and why?
  3. How do you find time to blog?
  4. What is your favourite post you've written? (include link)
  5. Name the happiest moment of your life so far…
  6. Name a song title that sums up your life
  7. What is you favourite movie/TV series?
  8. What is your proudest moment/achievement?
  9. Do you have a life mantra/saying/quote & what is it?
  10. What do you prefer: a good book or a good movie?
  11.  If you were famous, what would you be famous for?

Market Mashup - The Dead Of Winter Market by The Craft Collective

A bright sunny day was the perfect weather for a market in Christchurch on Saturday, The Craft Collective's Dead of Winter Market.  It was jam packed at 11am when I ventured to CPIT and I couldn't believe how busy it was.  Now I am a bit of a scaredy when it comes to crowds, I like to wander and not have to worry about zig zagging others and obstacles like prams and rather tall people or having to worry about holding people up.  So I tend to dash through and then if I feel comfortable will go back around a second time.  Lucky I did as I spotted a few things I didn't see the first time.  I have compiled a little collage of cuties for the littlies and cuties for the big kids (you). I think you will agree about their cuteness. If you went to the Market let me know what your faves were.
1. The Land of Nod Pillowcase by Marcel and Bear....2. Felt Crown by Felt like Celebrating.....3. Angel Wing Denim Jackets by Remember When You Used To Be A Rascal.......4. Upcycled Woollen Dress by Snippet.......5. Everyday Pirate Pants by SlipStitch......6. Lion Polar Jacket by Polarjacks.....7. Rocky Doorstop by YaYah Design....8. Unicorn Polar Jacket by Polarjacks

I love blogging but honestly..........

What a weekend - Bloggers+Bunting+Bonding = A great blogging event!
A few light bulb moments flashed before my eyes and things I had been thinking about already became a lot clearer. It was such a worthwhile experience as well as meeting some pretty cool people and also my blogging idols!  Also a lovely person told me that my blog was their happy place which honestly couldn't have come at a better time when things have been pretty crazy.

I am thinking about changing a few things with the blog -  the design, the font, taking better photos, having a think about content and where to from here -  And honestly I would also love any feedback on anything that you would love to see more of, less of and anything that might bug you about the blog - after all you are the ones who read it!
Source
So this brings me to my news - its time for a break from blogging while I figure it all out -it's that whole 'it's me not you' thing -  not just the blog but honestly I need to figure out the balancing act that is being a Mum and a Wife, working part time, the markets and not saying yes to everything else that comes along -this is my downfall (i'm also an active relaxer).  I need to find a better balance and look after myself a little better as I am officially burnt out. Apparently sleep and relaxing might help - I can't remember what these things are?

So while I work on fixing myself, figuring out what sleep and relaxing are, finding a balance, finishing my study and thinking about what blogging means to me let me know what you would like to see more of on the blog .

See you in a week or two x

Happy NZ Day

Waitangi Day or as I like to celebrate it, NZ Day, is a great day to celebrate all things kiwi. From Fantails to Eskimos, I have been searching the web and found some of our cutest icons whether retro, revamped or original.  Links below each photo will take you to the source.

Choc Fish Magnets, Lolly Mixture, Eskimo Magnets
For the lolly lover there are the classic choc fish magnets, eskimo magnets or lolly mixture like we used to get at the dairy.

Chelsea Sweet Cushion, Kiwi Icon cards, Keep Cool card
Keep Cool til After School is a flashback to a childhood of afternoons filled with Olly Olsen.
Pohutukawa Cottage, Sunday Drive, Kiwi Bach
I love the Kiwi Bach print and although we didn't have a Kingswood we often took Sunday drives in the family Falcon wagon to the beach.  I wasn't a fan of the gravel roads back in those days but nothing sticking my head out the window didn't fix - although a mouthful of dust kept me pretty quiet!

NZ Icons Bus Blind, Kiwi Pavlova Canvas, Jandals Print
I have always been a fan of the bus blind prints which are proving very popular these days, so a great alternative is the Jandal print.

Stamp Cushion, Stamp Heart, Stamp Pendant
The vintage kiwi stamps are great colours and look great in whatever form they take, whether it be a cushion, print or pendant.

I would love to hear what your favourite kiwi things are, please comment below and share the kiwiana love.

Bloggers Connecting

This exciting event is happening in April, an opportunity to catch up with fellow bloggers.  All you need to know (including registration) is found on the website: http://www.bloggersconnecting.com
and on the facebook page:
I'm tempted I must admit, but a little apprehensive, a little fearful and feel a little bit small to hang out with the big kids but then I think it could be fun!  What I have I got to lose, but a whole lot of information to gain, some friends to make and a few insights. As Nike would say Just Do It!
What do you think?

'Around the Table - Bloggers Connecting'
April 12-14th 2013

This is a chance to make authentic and meaningful connections with other bloggers. A chance to ask some of those prickly questions and maybe a chance to up-skill a little bit.

Mainly it's an invitation to laugh, relate, eat, relax and be with other NZ women bloggers in a relaxed environment.

We can't promise you'll learn something new, we can't promise it will change your life, we can't promise you'll even love it - although we hope all those things will happen - but we can promise we are putting our hearts, souls and energy into trying to create a
friendly
inclusive
warm
(the welcome not the weather!)
and 'I get that you blog'
kind of weekend.

Hello 2013

http://sodapop-design.de/

Happy New Year to you and Hello 2013. I hope this post finds you relaxed and refreshed after the holidays, I had a lovely festive season catching up with family and friends, enjoying the sunshine and treats that Xmas brings with it.  With a New Year upon us, it brings reflection and resolutions or goals (or an intention to come up with some). I know I have spent some time myself, reflecting back on 2012 and thinking of the new year ahead.  I am taking some time to figure out what happens to the blog, the markets, the projects and life in general really.  I'm not going to promise to save the world or take on another project (or 5) but I would like to spend more time doing some of the things that have been on my list for a while, I was going to write a list for that list but this summed it up quite nicely instead!

http://icecreamisbetterwithafork.tumblr.com/post/2421150648/idea-obscura-ive-been-thinking-of-doing-this

I hope you find the time to reflect and think about what you want out of your 2013, as long as you think about it you are on the right track.

I am still here, I promise!

Sorry there has been a lack of posts lately, we have been pretty busy with one thing or another, poor little Lily has had a cold, I had my birthday and with working and a few other projects on the go there hasn't been a lot of time to post.  And to think when I started out doing my blog I was going to try and post every day!  Anyway with a bit of spare time up my sleeve I thought I would post about a few things that have been happening lately and a few things I have found in my travels.
First up my birthday - it was a great day and I was very spoilt and I thought I would share a couple of cute things that I was given.......

I was given the bird on a swing necklace - thanks to Lee at Pretty Birds for making it for me and thanks to my friend Jemma for giving it to me for my birthday x
The cupcake is actually a chocolate given to me by my friend Jenna and they were not only delicious ( there was more than one, so naughty) but oh so cute!
I got lots of other practical goodies too while they aren't cute they definately make life that little bit easier.
I was also spoilt with flowers which I never get any other time of the year (hint hint Mr R) I ended up with 3 bunches which was nice, there is nothing quite like bunches of fresh flowers to make you smile.....

For you Mr Richards

Two years ago today we got married and these are a couple of my fav. photos from our special day.  We had them taken down Poplar Lane which is sadly no more, which is such a shame, it was one of my fav. places, I used to walk past it most days on my way to work and loved the vintage feel about it..  I had the pleasure of finding a surprise anniversary gift this morning and of course it was just a little bit cute, my husband tends to surprise me when I least expect it always keeping me on my toes. It was a beautiful bracelet, which was gorgeous and he had bought it for me knowing that sometimes my Pandora bracelet can be a bit bulky to wear but not to leave my Pandora out he bought it another charm aswell, now that's not only just a little bit cute but definately worth some more brownie points towards Husband of the Year!  So there you go Mr Richards, as I know you will be reading this, I finally mentioned you on my blog x

Who says Easter has to be about the chocolate?

I found the cutest Easter crafts over at Kidspot tonight, I like the idea of doing something crafty and unique rather than buying a mass produced chocolate egg from the many stores that are heaving with them at the moment.

I also love the idea
of an Easter tree...............just a little bit cute!
And then I found this..........
And this.......................
I think I will make Lily one which will be useful for future Easters when she gets older for the many Easter treats I know her Grandparents will spoil her with!
Head on over to:

and see all the eggciting things to make!
